The Dark Mark Reappears
Anyways, I know I just posted a new blog entry almost five hours ago but I really can't put this off until the next day. I just saw this amazing new trailer of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and it made my heart fly. Sigh. No matter how you try to eradicate it from my system, you really can't remove the inner Harry Potter Freakishness in me. And I think this will be a part of me until the day where I am in a rocking chair in some place God knows where. Ugh, I suddenly got an image of the old me chanting Avada Kedavra in my sleep. Creepy. Back to the whole trailer thing, the feeling of seeing this trailer was so surreal. You know that inexplicable sensation when you see those unforgettable pages you've read now in a motion picture. Nothing beats that feeling of seeing the people you used to imagine on every chapter coming alive on the big screen. This is my favorite trailer above the rest. To be honest, it gave me chills the first time I saw it. Trailer-shock anyone? I don't now how to put them into words right now but it sure made my day err..night, whatever. I've grown tired of the whole the-book-is-so-much-better argument that I have learned to exorcise it out of my system. Movies and Books are just two different things. Nonetheless, this just made me more psyched for the month of July to come. Please no more moving of dates. Let the countdown begins! Labels: harry potter, movies, trailer Tuesday, April 28, 2009
On Claws of Adamantium
![]() I just saw X-Men Origins yesterday out of boredom. You familiar with the infamous leaked version of this anticipated motion picture? At first people dismissed this as an April Fool joke gone wrong, but turns out they're ultimately wrong. Apparently, a full length DVD quality copy version of the film was posted illegally on various websites before the actual release date of it worldwide in theaters for four more weeks. I saw various statements coming from the people behind the movie saying they have contacted the appropriate legal authorities and had it removed. But the internet is as vast and as tangled I cannot think of anything in comparison to weigh against it. I bet copies of the movie is still out there somewhere over the world wide web. Does BitTorrent ring a bell? Blame it the developers of the program because this was the real perpetrator behind the exponential illegal downloads of the said movie. I myself is an avid user of the mentioned software. Yeah, but I didn't succumbed to evil paws of downloading for me to have a copy of this flick and I think you already knew what I'm talking about. ;) ![]() It was very disappointing that some people had the courage to post this leaked version. It was ironically a very selfish thing to do in my opinion. How about the people behind the film who had worked painstakingly for the production of this film? I bet sleepless nights were required for the completion of this. And what will they get in return? Fans and other members of the public have already seen it? Forgive me if this sounds to be a hypocrite of me since I already saw the movie but at least I'm not a downloader myself. However, this just shows a bittersweet truth about technology; On how the internet's role has changed on the lives of the modern human beings over the past years. On how it can either create or destroy large entities all over the globe. Nevertheless it's a very easy argument really -- You either download it or you don't. I'm writing this, not because I wanted to blame the production team for being too complacent on the security of the release of the film. I'm writing this because I don't want movies like this to stop here. I want more comic book heroes to be alive on the big screen. I want more good comic book based movies to be produced in the following years. With Hollywood suffering, I think this incident should be considered as both an awakening truth and a lesson for all of us. This leak is not something to be proud of and I don't want to this to a detrimental catalyst that we will all regret at the end of the day. Monday, April 27, 2009
Re-Vamped Definition
![]() If you ever asked me how Blue Bloods was, I probably told you that Twilight is soooo much better. Errrrrr. I am a bit wrong on that part, the two novels are just impossible to compare. No I am not saying that it's like comparing Harry Potter to Ron Weasley; which is just plain unfair. For me it would be like comparing Harry Potter to....Cedric Diggory. Hahahaha, Okay I know I am horrible at doing comparisons. That was just the first thing that popped in my head when I first think of it. In short, the two novels both have their strong and weak points respectively making a comparison a little bit difficult to weigh. Twilight is a witty and adventurous love story that depicted modern vegetarian vampires luring in Forks. Blue Bloods on the other hand takes the whole vampire thing to the next platform setting it to the Upper East Side. And for me that was the novel's strongest factor. The major plot is fresh. I take what I said before, Blue Bloods is a good novel. It subtly creates loose ends on every chapter then cleverly tying them one by one while leaving enough loose ends to excite readers with the next book. Perhaps some of the characters can be a little confusing to empathize with, but the mysterious well thought-out plot of this book is enough to make this one compelling read. So now you're are probably wondering what is so fresh about the definition of vampires in Blue Bloods. Here, apparently vampires are believed to be fallen angels that are doomed to face immortality while living on human's blood. In return, these fallen angels decided to try and regain their former angelic status through good works (the Blue Bloods just love charity committees!) but regaining grace requires more than the span of a human life. So vampires in Blue Bloods are reincarnated. They are only allowed to live for a hundred years and after that they needed to rest and wait for their next cycle. Sounds confusing? I think Schuyler's grandmother explained this well enough. Here's a peek to their conversation: Amazing isn't it? It's like Vampire Mythology with a little dash Science Fiction. It totally deviated from the usual vampires that we all encountered in books and movies. But that wasn't the only thing that made this really compelling. The book also has this air of dark mystery and untold secrets that drives you forward. As it slowly unravels a threat to the Blue Bloods existence, there is also as a surprising secret about our protagonist, Schuyler which keeps readers interested and motivated to the end of the story. If you want to take a peek into the lives of the rich, famous and fanged teens, I suggest you to read this. As for me, MASQUERADE here I come! Sunday, April 26, 2009
Ungodly Hour
![]() I am so loving the rain that's been present now for almost four consecutive days here in my place. You know when the the sky is dark and gloomy, the air is damp and raw, the streets are all wet and sloppy.Yes, shoot me now if you hate my prior statement but I do like it when it's raining. It doesn't give me this lonely, melancholic feel that majority of the crowd's been complaining when there are heavy waters descending down from the sky. The rain is relaxing for me. Plus, I can snuggle more in my bed for extra hours because of the chilling effect drawn by the rain. Yes, I know that this surprise drizzle is totally spoiling the whole summer. But hey I'm sure this wouldn't last long. We live in a tropical country. It's not like this type of weather would prolong until the end of the season right? Just give me some time because I'm loving the gloomy skies at the moment. Saves a lot of sweat you know? Call me weird but this type of climate somehow made me feel nostalgic to read Twilight all over again. Hey, the cloudy skies and the cold environment somehow completes the whole mysterious vibe of the novel. To cut the story short, as I read the whole novel from start to finish I began notice how witty and sarcastic Bella really was. How she makes those sharp statements whenever she talks to Edward. Those early chapters were truly a fun thing to look upon once again. It made me think twice about Kirsten Stewart's characterization of Bella Swan in the movie. The actress totally forgot this, I must say, adorable streak of the Bella that I remember in the book. Kirsten just looked bored throughout the whole movie in my opinion which made the whole "you-are-apart-from-everyone" looked too contrived. In the movie, Bella looked like this lifeless person that fell in love with this undeniably gorgeous vampire. For me, Bella was more of a likable character in the books more so in the movie. Who's with me? Hahaha. Forgive me if this commentary is five months late. Perhaps my Twilight observation skills wasn't working these part few months. Hey, the rain helped me out! PARANOIA strikes again. XD Saturday, April 25, 2009
Paradoxical Thoughts
Who among you are familiar with this Latin phrase. I recalled my first encounter with this word when I was in senior high school when it suddenly appeared in my exam paper back in my Literature class one time. I was totally clueless of what this Latin phrase entailed. Never have I thought that this two words would soon create a greater sense to me now that I grew wiser. SEIZE THE DAY, is what Carpe Diem simply means in plain English. It was taken from a poem written by Horace, a Roman lyric poet, entitled Odes, a collection of four books filled with lyric poems. [So much for recalling my lecture notes for that matter.] HAHA. We have to admit that sometimes life can be a little too fast. We're oftentimes blinded by the life that we are planning for ourselves that sometimes we tend to ignore what we have in the present. What if we wake up one day only to realize that our lives began twenty years ago and we just became oblivious because we are expecting our lives to turn out to be different? What if we just ignored all the opportunities and kept waiting? What if its too late and all that we have to do is to suck it all in? Sometimes having a mind set for the future can have its downsides too you know. Don't just sit there, DO SOMETHING! I learned something out of that Latin phrase, I want to appreciate my life more. With all my insignificant complaints and shortcomings aside, maybe I'm good to go. Hey I'm only seventeen. Hopefully the life that is destined for me is still out there. Carpe Diem taught me to thrive my hardest. We can never bring back the past nor take over the future right? Seize the day and place no trust for tomorrow. We can never achieve something in just plain waiting. Sometimes our actions can create a greater effect for us in the near future. They say it's always the NOW that matters. “Seize every opportunity that life offers you because, when opportunities go, they take a long time to come back.” As I type these words, I got myself thinking and I asked myself, when did life started to be scary. When I was young I thought life was all about the pursuit of fun. You find your place in the world and be contented with it. But when I grew up I learned that we can never find that place without hurting someone in the process. You look behind you before you jump and sometimes you never jump at all because there's this doubt that no one will catch you. There is no safety net in life. When did life stopped being fun? Mistakes are always inevitable. It's a part of life remember? But I believe our mistakes make our fate. Maybe if we had never change course with our direction and commit mistakes we will never be who we are right now. When today wasn't a great day, it's not a failure or terrible loss. It's just another day. Perfection is idealistic they say and it's true. Perfection is subjective. It depends on how we play the cards that we have at the moment. Perfection is how we deal in life. Today, it may sound absurd but I believe it will soon create a greater sense to me in the near future. Life's too complex for me to comprehend in just a day. I have tomorrow and the next day and the next day to do that. =] Guess the title now makes more sense. :))) |
