Strands of Optimism
"Dark and difficult times lie ahead, Harry" Dark and difficult times indeed, dark and difficult times. If you are a Harry Potter fan like I am, then guessing which HP movie does this famous quotation came from is just a piece of cake. Sigh. Blogging in the wee hours of the morning once again. As weird as I call it but I just found myself contemplating about certain things around me that's why the word 'sleep' is not yet sinking in. Questions and situations that are making my sleep a little more difficult. Have you ever felt like something bad is going to happen, yet for some unexplained circumstances, your fingers cannot point out what it is going to be? Well, I'm having one of those bizarre feelings right now --- BIG TIME! People often tell us to trust our intuitions when it comes to certain things. They say we should always trust our gut feeling. But what if my intuitions are getting out the worst in me? The mere feeling that I'm experiencing right now is just stressing the hell out of me. Added the fact that my fingers cannot point out what it is that's been bothering my mind at some point now. Is it really something that I cannot point out or is it just something that I am too scared to admit myself? More often than not, sometimes it is better to face something that you know for a fact is there than to face an unknown feeling that is foreign to you and you couldn't point out. Perhaps all of this is just because the universe isn't conspiring with my plans for the past few days that's why I am having a mind set like this. It's true how pessimism really has its own way of creeping up in a man's system. You may not know it until you're already swallowed with your own dark thoughts you can't get out of it anymore. I know it's not too late, at least I hope it's not too late. Maybe I'm paranoid or what, I am not sure. But I don't want to complicate things. All I ask is a miracle to happen. Please let there be something that would prove my intuitions wrong. The grass is always greener on the other side. I believe I still have little strands of optimism in me that can pull me up from these negative thoughts that has been pulling me down. Yes, perhaps all I needed is to have a little more faith in Him. I need to take all the time that I can get for the peace of mind that I deserve. We really need to to look closer to ourselves instead of searching so far. This is just a phase. Tomorrow is another day right? Yeah. Maybe at the end of the day, all I should do is to catch some sleep. Hopefully the next day will be better than the last one. Saturday, June 27, 2009
Late Thoughts & Whatnots
The spread was faster than any form of viral disease. It had taken millions of people by surprise. You can still even see the impact that it had created on millions of people across the globe up to this very moment. Everything was so sudden yet the effect was phenomenal. People now call it as one of the biggest surprises to the history of mankind. Don't agree with me? Check your newsstands, and internet news sites, and I bet my life that you will see what I am referring to. And before you know it, you will just find yourself blogging about one of the hottest topic across the blogosphere universe today. I was part of the generation that wasn't eclipsed by Michael Jackson's fame. Or at least I was born at the time where the King of Pop was a far fetched topic for my childish mind then to concentrate on for the moment. I was still thinking of far more other things than a guy that was famous for his eccentric outfits, energetic moves and good music. I belong to the revival era of the Jackson epic as others would call it. The generation probably that only knew an MJ song because it was later sang by David Cook. It was the time where Michael Jackson was considered as a classic rather than something contemporary. It's a little bit harsh but it's true. Honestly, I was just familiarized by the song Man In The Mirror because of Kris Allen. All thanks to American Idol of course. But then again who wouldn't recall the guy behind the music that made Thriller the national anthem of Halloween right? The man behind the famous (and difficult not to mention) moon walk. And the man that was so significant to the music industry today, I couldn't even count how many artists became inspired and was influenced by this guy.Though, I do not know a lot about Michael and his musical contribution, I feel how his loss made huge impact on most of us. It was like a part of ourselves died with him -- no matter how remotely small that part might be, still I believe there was a space for the Michael Jackson there that died as well. (Sheesh, I sounded like a die hard fan right there, but no) It's an inevitable thing to recall all the controversies that are included when you first speak of the name Michael Jackson. But let's give this sorrowful moment to the man. Can't we just cut the whole controversy crap for the sake of the people who loved the man for who he is. I hate it how the media loves sensationalizing issues of a dead person. It's appalling how in accordance to the immense number of contributions that Michael had brought, words such as pedophile, sexual abuser and homosexual just to name a few are included with the Michael Jackson package. I am not an avid fanatic (although honestly I think I am starting to sound like one) so I am not to judge this man's actions. But with all of Michael Jackson's shortcomings aside, we have to remember that he is still a man with a pure talent. I guess fame really has its price. It has its own pros and cons and dealing with them is not an easy thing. With booze, drugs and sex here and there, it is a fat chance for someone to come clean and to face hard controversies altogether right? Can you even imagine how difficult it is for celebrities? Fame can really take someone to the top of the world. But I guess the faster you get there, the longer it will take for you to fall as well. What's most important is how someone gets up and continue life. As for me, Michael Jackson is one of the greatest symbol that I can give as an example. Being a catholic myself, I guess he already made his message to the world by delivering good music and becoming a symbol of courage that's why God took him already as he had done his part to the world. Hopefully the people still alive would do their part as well. Sigh. His heartbeat might have died, but his music will stay with all of us forever. Hmmmmm. As if naman by collecting my thoughts about Michael will do good on me right? Pamamanahan ba niya ko ng yaman niya if I write this? No. Read between the lines guys. I think you already know what I am talking about. :) Wednesday, June 24, 2009
Stuck in Wonderland
Alice In Wonderland is going to be made into a real life movie! You didn't experience childhood without hearing Alice's wonderful adventures. Actually, as a kid I was scared slash fascinated with the story of Alice in Wonderland. She was like sucked into this surreal world where everything was unusual. A place where rabbits understood the value of time, where cats became invisible and all of the unusual things weird a man could think of. What also excites me about the film is the collaboration of the dynamic duo of Tim Burton and Johny Depp! What is Tim Burton without Johny Depp right? I just love Tim Burton's perspective on creating movies. He has his own trademark, from the way he creates his sets to the way he pictures a scene. With his magnificent works such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, I couldn't just wait on how he's going to make Alice In Wonderland one of his own. There's the picture above of the amazing Johny Depp in his Mad Hatter costume while on his left we have Helena Bonham Carter in his most animated role, I can say, as the Red Queen. I heard Anne Hathaway is going to be the White Queen while Mia Wasikowska is going to play the coveted role of Alice Kingsley. The white rabbit's going to be played by Micheal Sheen while Professor Snape (yes, I insist in calling him that way) and Peter Pettigrew will play The Catterpillar and The Bloodhound respectively. Sadly, this film won't hit the theaters until the early of 2010. I can't wait! Sunday, June 21, 2009

Left With Stars
So much to stall someone for an introduction right? Actually that isn't what this blog entry is all about. There was just this funny story that I encountered this afternoon while I was doing my daily routines in the world wide web. In fact, I am still doubting if the word funny is the right word to describe this unfortunate story. HAHA! Here's how the story goes: A Belgian teenager who asked a tattooist for three tiny stars on her face, only to end up covered in 56 stars, is suing the tattooist for 10,000 Euros damages. I have only one thing to say first. FELL ASLEEP? Is the girl serious about her alibi because I am seriously not buying it. If I am not mistaken, having a tattoo is a really painful thing to experience. This is not those sticker-like tattoos that you mix with water; this is really painful. So there is in no way in hell that this girl fell asleep without even feeling a single tinge of pain out of the anatomy of her body that could wake her up. Unless she is heavily drunk or sedated which is both a plausible speculation that I am starting to consider. She must've said fifty-six when in her head she was thinking of the number three I don't know. Now for the reason for suing the tattoo artist that made her look like a copy of the American Flag plus six anonymous states (HAHA), attention maybe? Or perhaps she was just trying to cover up her drug mishap by blaming the artist of her predicament I am not sure. I haven't read any follow up articles to this really funny news and I am not planning to do an intensive research either. I just want to share to you my immediate reaction to this poor poor girl's ill-fated situation. (Hey. at least the other side still looks clean.) HAHAHA! Thursday, June 11, 2009
Angels & Demons
Category: BooksI am still out of muse to write another sensible blog entry so for the time being, I will just focus on writing good reviews about anything under the sun. :)) Probably another highlight of my summer aside from seeing the two Davids live, is finally reading Angels & Demons. I know it is a little late of me to join the Dan Brown bandwagon but I can't help but become curious about Robert Langdon's controversial adventures. Surely the book didn't fail to amuse me with its well-thought out storyline, unexpected twists, breathtaking locations and his ingenious puzzle solving abilities. I can now consider Robert Langdon as one of my favorite fictional characters because of his vast knowledge on art, history, symbology, architecture and secret societies. Setting the book in the City of God while adding undertones of science, mystery and art is what makes Angels & Demons truly compelling. The narrative is simple yet it digs out theories and arguments about the God, about Science and their relentless battle about the meaning of life. All of a sudden readers will be drawn into the undying controversy of the whole Science vs. Religion thing once again --- both presented in their equal justice. Beginning with the Antimatter, a new science discovery expected to make breakthrough in our lives. When the Antimatter got stolen from the CERN laboratory in a threat to destroy the Holy City of the Vatican, Robert Langdon found himself caught up in chase against time in finding missing cardinals, solving cryptic poetry, visiting unknown catacombs, all before the strike of midnight. With the resurgence of a long forgotten brotherhood that swore to take the church down said to infiltrate all the things we see, all is not what Robert seems to think. Without a doubt, Brown's magic in weaving a spellbinding story made reading Angels & Demons beyond exciting. His mission to use his books as a springboard sure paid off with Angels & Demons as it raised different concepts about religious elements and the people's faith today. Crafted in a way that will make readers wonder what's going to happen next, you will definitely have a hard time putting this book down. The characters are alive on every page and the writing was elaborate altogether with the settings which was pictured vividly. Readers will sure going to be transported alongside Langdon all over Rome in his quest to discover the real culprit behind the unimaginable crime ongoing in Vatican. Despite Dan Brown's inhuman pace of characters (Langdon seldom eats throughout the rest of the novel), this book is just perfect for my taste. With unexpected twists here and there, readers will no doubt going to be compelled enough from start to finish. Indeed another one of those books that you should include in your "to read again" list. Slackjaw: A Memoir
Category: BooksBecause of a memory gap that I have been suffering for some time now, it took me a while to remember that I have to write an amazing review for Angels&Demons yesterday since I just finish it the same day. But before I unleash my parade of superlatives with Dan Brown's novel, for some reason, I found myself recalling about this amazing memoir that I first read when I was still in high school. It was one of those books that I accidentally read out of severe boredom inside the school library and one that was outside my Harry Potter years as well. My high school friends with awesome brain power could possibly recall on how did I got my hands with this book. I could still laugh on how enthralling this books was. I never thought that a novel that I have read like two years ago could still be as vivid like the first time that I've read it. That is why I took the chance to share my thoughts with Jim's life story once and for all (and to recall my high school life once more! HAHA!) What I notice about Jim is his deviation and sarcasm that is sure apparent throughout the story. He immediately shared to the readers his illness from the beginning of the story; a form of veer to the usual narrative that we often see today on usual "living with disabilities" novels. He hates self-pity and dewy-eyed courage so in a form of a prologue, (I think?) Jim tells us that he has Retinitis Pigmentosa, a genetic eye condition that starts from having night blindness, tunnel vision then loosing their complete vision eventually. You can never imagine how a man like Jim had lived his life with such illness. He had a pretty normal childhood as far as I recalled. I even remember the time when Jim got totally addicted in donating blood on different blood charities. For some reason, he called it his replacement instead of taking drugs. Before he went to graduate school, he even had rebellious and anarchist years in college. Even had the opportunity to be a column writer in Philadelphia. The narrative of the story gradually moves from Jim's suburban neighborhood to the high streets of New York, from living with his deteriorating vision until finally encroaching in complete darkness. I truly love that in spite the dark undertone that was looming to take Jim, still he pursued life like no one else could have imagined. It sends a message that even though one is suffering with something doesn't exactly translates to a waste of a lifetime. Jim proved that regardless of his illness, he still lived life in a rebellious yet comical way opposite to anyone who could have think of. The writing was sharp, evocative and filled with grim humor. Entertaining enough to make the readers flip the pages for what's going to happen next. Getting inspiration to a person that views life in a cynical and sardonic way is what makes Slackjaw stood out from the rest of the books that I have encountered. A truly different one from your usual inspirational books out there. Probably why despite the span of time, I can still recall this funny, sad, shocking and compelling story of a mad man and his adventures. Monday, June 8, 2009
Drag Me To Hell
Category: Movies I was suppose to finish reading Angels & Demons this weekend but since Drag Me To Hell really intrigued me out of the crazy reviews that I heard about it, I told myself that putting a book for a good two-three hours to see this movie would do no harm. Surely, this flick didn't disappoint the audience with its sure-fire techniques to scare the hell out of us. Director Sam Raimi from the Spiderman franchise surely did an amazing job with this one. And his past experience from directing The Evil Dead sure emanated from the movie. The story of the film begins when loan officer Christine Brown tries to get promoted at her job. In an attempt to impress her boss, Christine denies the extension of an old gypsy woman had asked for about her mortgage. The old woman begged in front of Christine but the girl was still persistent about her promotion. The whole thing caused a scene and soon after that Christine life drastically changes. "You shamed me...soon you will be the one begging from me" I had to agree with Enzo saying that this line is so powerful it can resonate in ones mind even after seeing the movie. The film has scary elements that only The Exorcist holds in my opinion. The demonic shadows and realistic hell openings are an added factor to that. Truly this movie will haunt someone in their sleep. Superb sound effects that is totally not for the faint hearted crowd. Hah. But although I find this movie really scary, I really found some scenes awkwardly and unintentionally hilarious. I don't know but for some reason, I just found myself laughing on the scene where the ghost of the old woman tries to put her entire first in Christine's mouth ---- and the whole thing fits! That was just my example, don't understand what I'm saying? See the movie and find out ;) Thursday, June 4, 2009
Lenka-Love
A new discovery and a new personal favorite of mine. I mean, who wouldn't resist Lenka's soothing and relaxing music? With an amazing voice, a feel-good tune and such positive message in every song, I'm sure even the most apathetic listener would sure extend an ear to this amazing musician. You should try listening to this girl. I myself am more of a rocker when it comes to my preferences in music but Lenka sure made an exception on me. That is why I got inspired to doodle with my Photoshop while listening to her album. This is my very first typographic art. I tried to take inspiration from Renzy's text art but mine didn't do any justice. Cut me some slack for the asymmetry of my letters. Hope you like it! Yeah. Sometimes we really do find ourselves caught in the middle. Agree? :) Wednesday, June 3, 2009
Attack of the Four-Eyed Monster
The four-eyed blue monster geek is back! WAHAHAHA! At last! After seeing the world in plain obscurity for almost two years now, I can finally see it in a clearer perspective once again. HAHA! I was a near-sighted person for those who had no idea and I find it difficult to appreciate images from afar. Yeah, for almost two years I live in a world in blur and I hate it. I was branded as "suplado" mostly on first impressions because I hardly recognize faces while walking on the street. I can only realize that I know a person if he/she stood right in front of me face-to-face. I had to squint my eyes really hard during class because I couldn't read what was on the board. Or worse, I even had go to the front of the classroom to see the words really vivid. Another thing I also hate about being near-sighted was my experiences in riding jeepneys especially dealing with the moving ones. Reading the signs of their route was difficult for me. I had to look closely on their sign boards so that I could ensure that I am taking the appropriate route. Good thing God invented barkers which really lessened my burden. My old glasses had a long story on why I am not using it anymore but after it got in a really bad predicament almost two years ago, my eyes had suffered even more. Guess, these are the consequences of being a bad owner of my eyes. Haha. I was forcing my mom to get me a new pair ever since but since we had a lot of other larger priorities back then, it took a while before I got a new pair. Luckily the summer also means less money problems so yeay! I just picked it up this afternoon and it looks really good. The Uninvited
Category: MoviesFrom the producers of The Ring and Disturbia comes the latest horror of flick of 2009 and a new personal favorite of mine, I can say. The Uninvited is a remake of the Korean horror film A Tale of Two Sisters which I happen to see after I got to watch American version afterward. We all have a preconceived notion the original movie is always far better the remake one. This one however made an exception. The film tells the story of Anna and her return to her family after being kept in a mental institution for ten months after her mother's death. Anna's memory of the death of her mother was vague and the only thing that she could remember was the fact that she died in a fire accident. Shortly after her return, Anna was taken aback when she realized that the nurse that worked for her mother was now her dad's new girlfriend. Soon after her return Anna starts to get haunted by numerous ghosts and horrific nightmares which she believe was a message that her mother's death wasn't entirely an accident. With the help of her big sister Alex, Anna starts to investigate the real cause of their own mom's demise and a strong force somehow points them to a very close suspect. Little did Anna knew that the real story will change the course of the events in their house forever. There's always this Hollywood touch about remakes that can either make or break a movie. With the Uninvited, however Hollywood did an amazing job. They subtly stripped down some obscure Korean elements while infusing the American touch all in all. The Tale of Two Sisters had some plot-holes in my opinion and there were certain parts about the movie that I personally didn't get. The Uninvited did an outstanding remake in resolving the plot by making it more simple and comprehensible to a larger number audience. It was delivered in a compelling format that works extremely well on this kind of genre. I would also give pros to the editing of the events in the movie which is a big plus that captivates the viewers more for the surprise twist at the end. My only concern was probably the horror element of the flick. It was probably because it centered more on the storyline that it accidentally forgot the horror factor of the movie. I can boldly say that you can watch this movie alone even if it's the middle of the night. Nonetheless, I would still give five, no ten stars for this enthralling magnum opus. |

Vanity isn't a sin, a little narcissm wouldn't hurt.Greetings stranger! If you ever by any chance stumble upon this little world that I created myself in the vast and tangled universe of the world wide web, consider yourself warned. I am extremely well known for being enigmatic and difficult to understand. I may seem detached and incapable of revealing my innermost feelings simply because I am oftentimes unable to do so. Perhaps philosophical at times and is interested in what we called the unexplained. Consider me as a little bit of everything all rolled into one. On some days I can be social, fun loving, outgoing and creative on one hand my personality is also contrasted with being sarcastic, moody and stubborn. So while some days will be a hit and others a miss hopefully but most days, will be and should be better than others. Nonetheless, read at your own risk. In short, WELCOME to Planet Oblivion!
