| read.watch.listen "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good." | Monday, April 27, 2009 Re-Vamped Definition Who hates Sundays? I do. Well it's not because of being forced to wake up early to go to church, nor being forced to sleep too early because there are classes the other day. I do not have any classes every Monday for almost six months so technically my two days of rest isn't the usual Sat-Sun unlike others. Anyways it's summer so these things won't make any sense. I happened to hate Sundays --- okay maybe hate is a strong word --- I dislike Sundays simply because I get to surf the internet with a very futile amount of time. There were even instances were I wasn't able to touch the computer at all. Sundays to me simply translates as my-two-sisters-are-coming-home-so-it's-their-turn-now-to-touch-the-computer day. HAHA. Forgive me if this sounds to be a little selfish of me. But hey, I got to do something productive while I was away from the computer the entire day. I happened to finish reading Blue Bloods after almost two months of having a break of flipping its pages. With a very hectic schedule last semester, I really need to put Blue Bloods on hold. If you ever asked me how Blue Bloods was, I probably told you that Twilight is soooo much better. Errrrrr. I am a bit wrong on that part, the two novels are just impossible to compare. No I am not saying that it's like comparing Harry Potter to Ron Weasley; which is just plain unfair. For me it would be like comparing Harry Potter to....Cedric Diggory. Hahahaha, Okay I know I am horrible at doing comparisons. That was just the first thing that popped in my head when I first think of it. In short, the two novels both have their strong and weak points respectively making a comparison a little bit difficult to weigh. Twilight is a witty and adventurous love story that depicted modern vegetarian vampires luring in Forks. Blue Bloods on the other hand takes the whole vampire thing to the next platform setting it to the Upper East Side. And for me that was the novel's strongest factor. The major plot is fresh. I take what I said before, Blue Bloods is a good novel. It subtly creates loose ends on every chapter then cleverly tying them one by one while leaving enough loose ends to excite readers with the next book. Perhaps some of the characters can be a little confusing to empathize with, but the mysterious well thought-out plot of this book is enough to make this one compelling read. So now you're are probably wondering what is so fresh about the definition of vampires in Blue Bloods. Here, apparently vampires are believed to be fallen angels that are doomed to face immortality while living on human's blood. In return, these fallen angels decided to try and regain their former angelic status through good works (the Blue Bloods just love charity committees!) but regaining grace requires more than the span of a human life. So vampires in Blue Bloods are reincarnated. They are only allowed to live for a hundred years and after that they needed to rest and wait for their next cycle. Sounds confusing? I think Schuyler's grandmother explained this well enough. Here's a peek to their conversation: Amazing isn't it? It's like Vampire Mythology with a little dash Science Fiction. It totally deviated from the usual vampires that we all encountered in books and movies. But that wasn't the only thing that made this really compelling. The book also has this air of dark mystery and untold secrets that drives you forward. As it slowly unravels a threat to the Blue Bloods existence, there is also as a surprising secret about our protagonist, Schuyler which keeps readers interested and motivated to the end of the story. If you want to take a peek into the lives of the rich, famous and fanged teens, I suggest you to read this. As for me, MASQUERADE here I come! | theprolougueVanity isn't a sin, a little narcissm wouldn't hurt. Greetings stranger! If you ever by any chance stumble upon this little world that I created myself in the vast and tangled universe of the world wide web, consider yourself warned. I am extremely well known for being enigmatic and difficult to understand. I may seem detached and incapable of revealing my innermost feelings simply because I am oftentimes unable to do so. Perhaps philosophical at times and is interested in what we called the unexplained. Consider me as a little bit of everything all rolled into one. On some days I can be social, fun loving, outgoing and creative on one hand my personality is also contrasted with being sarcastic, moody and stubborn. So while some days will be a hit and others a miss hopefully but most days, will be and should be better than others. Nonetheless, read at your own risk. In short, WELCOME to Planet Oblivion!
