The Uninvited
Category: MoviesFrom the producers of The Ring and Disturbia comes the latest horror of flick of 2009 and a new personal favorite of mine, I can say. The Uninvited is a remake of the Korean horror film A Tale of Two Sisters which I happen to see after I got to watch American version afterward. We all have a preconceived notion the original movie is always far better the remake one. This one however made an exception. The film tells the story of Anna and her return to her family after being kept in a mental institution for ten months after her mother's death. Anna's memory of the death of her mother was vague and the only thing that she could remember was the fact that she died in a fire accident. Shortly after her return, Anna was taken aback when she realized that the nurse that worked for her mother was now her dad's new girlfriend. Soon after her return Anna starts to get haunted by numerous ghosts and horrific nightmares which she believe was a message that her mother's death wasn't entirely an accident. With the help of her big sister Alex, Anna starts to investigate the real cause of their own mom's demise and a strong force somehow points them to a very close suspect. Little did Anna knew that the real story will change the course of the events in their house forever. There's always this Hollywood touch about remakes that can either make or break a movie. With the Uninvited, however Hollywood did an amazing job. They subtly stripped down some obscure Korean elements while infusing the American touch all in all. The Tale of Two Sisters had some plot-holes in my opinion and there were certain parts about the movie that I personally didn't get. The Uninvited did an outstanding remake in resolving the plot by making it more simple and comprehensible to a larger number audience. It was delivered in a compelling format that works extremely well on this kind of genre. I would also give pros to the editing of the events in the movie which is a big plus that captivates the viewers more for the surprise twist at the end. My only concern was probably the horror element of the flick. It was probably because it centered more on the storyline that it accidentally forgot the horror factor of the movie. I can boldly say that you can watch this movie alone even if it's the middle of the night. Nonetheless, I would still give five, no ten stars for this enthralling magnum opus. |

Vanity isn't a sin, a little narcissm wouldn't hurt.Greetings stranger! If you ever by any chance stumble upon this little world that I created myself in the vast and tangled universe of the world wide web, consider yourself warned. I am extremely well known for being enigmatic and difficult to understand. I may seem detached and incapable of revealing my innermost feelings simply because I am oftentimes unable to do so. Perhaps philosophical at times and is interested in what we called the unexplained. Consider me as a little bit of everything all rolled into one. On some days I can be social, fun loving, outgoing and creative on one hand my personality is also contrasted with being sarcastic, moody and stubborn. So while some days will be a hit and others a miss hopefully but most days, will be and should be better than others. Nonetheless, read at your own risk. In short, WELCOME to Planet Oblivion!
